We’re committed to making the process of receiving services at the Appalachian State University Psychology Clinic as straightforward as possible. Whether you’re preparing for your first appointment or looking for payment and insurance information, you’ll find helpful resources below.
Before Your First Appointment
After you have completed a phone screening and been scheduled with a clinician, we encourage you to review our new patient forms before your first appointment. These documents explain important information about our policies, privacy practices, and communication procedures. You will be asked to sign and complete these forms in person during your first intake appointment.

If you believe you may qualify for a reduced fee based on household income and family size, please review the Sliding Scale Application and be prepared to provide supporting financial documentation.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Your first appointment will be an initial intake session. During this appointment, your clinician will:
- Learn about your symptoms, concerns, and goals
- Gather relevant personal, medical, educational, and treatment history
- Answer questions about Clinic policies and services
- Discuss recommendations and next steps
Please bring any relevant records or documentation that may be helpful, such as previous evaluations, treatment records, school accommodation plans, or insurance information.
Fees and Insurance
We work directly with several different insurance plans and offer a sliding fee scale for eligible clients to make our services affordable, however, coverage is determined entirely by your provider. Online Payments
Current clients may pay an outstanding balance through the University’s secure payment portal. Please only submit a payment if your clinician or Clinic billing staff has instructed you to do so. You will be asked to enter the payment amount, and the amount entered should match the balance provided by the Clinic.
